The important change in ChatGPT this week is not simply that another model arrived.

The answer itself is becoming an interface.

OpenAI began rolling GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users on 7 October. The rollout expanded to Free and Go from 8 October.

Instead of returning only text, ChatGPT can now decide that a question is better answered with a chart, graphic, form, set of buttons or an interactive tool built directly inside the conversation.

For European marketers, that creates a new measurement problem.

A brand can now be surfaced inside an answer that behaves more like a small application than a conventional search result.

There is not yet a standard “Intelligent UI ranking” report that tells marketers how often this happens.

So the useful move is not to speculate about rankings.

It is to start collecting comparable evidence.

What actually changed on 7–8 October

OpenAI calls the new capability Intelligent UI.

GPT-6 can choose how text, visuals and interactive components should be assembled based on the user’s request.

OpenAI’s examples include:

  • side-by-side comparisons;
  • charts and graphics;
  • interactive diagrams;
  • forms;
  • tappable controls;
  • calculators;
  • small tools that run inside the conversation.

The interface is assembled from native components while the answer streams.

That distinction matters.

This is not simply markdown formatting added to a normal answer. The model can select an interface pattern and progressively construct it as part of the response.

The rollout also differs by ChatGPT tier.

Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise use GPT-6 Sol in the Chat experience.

Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna.

Enterprise availability can depend on workplace administrator settings.

OpenAI also says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.

Why European brands should care about the interface, not just the model

A conventional AI-visibility audit usually asks questions such as:

  • Was our brand mentioned?
  • Was our domain cited?
  • Which page was cited?
  • Which competitors appeared?
  • Did the answer send a click?

Intelligent UI adds another layer.

A product comparison could become an interactive selection interface.

A financial question could generate a calculator.

A travel query could produce a map.

A planning query could create controls that let the user modify assumptions without starting a new search.

That means a brand’s visibility can potentially have different forms:

mentioned in text → cited as a source → included in an interactive module → linked as an action or destination.

Those should not automatically be treated as equivalent exposure.

NEMO’s recommendation is to start recording the interface itself alongside the answer.

Do not merge four different OpenAI changes

Several OpenAI developments have landed close together, which makes it easy to describe them as one shift.

They are not.

Development What changed European marketing question
GPT-6 Intelligent UI Answers can become interactive interfaces How are brands represented inside those interfaces?
textGrain Eligible EU text receives a machine-readable provenance signal What does AI Act provenance compliance require?
ChatGPT Ads Europe Ads are available across 31 European markets on Free and Go How should paid ChatGPT exposure be measured?
New visual ad format More visual advertising during image generation Not yet a European launch; initial testing is in the US

NEMO has separately examined OpenAI’s EU text watermarking and the European ChatGPT Ads environment.

Keeping these systems separate prevents a common measurement error.

A brand appearing in an Intelligent UI response is not automatically an ad.

A visible ad is not evidence that advertising influenced the answer.

A text provenance watermark is not an interface-ranking signal.

And the visual ad test should not be described as live in Europe.

Run this two-week Intelligent UI capture protocol

There is not enough evidence yet to claim an Intelligent UI visibility trend.

But teams can build the evidence now.

Start with 30 prompts relevant to one market.

Split them into three groups.

10 branded prompts

Examples:

  • “[brand] pricing”
  • “compare [brand] plans”
  • “which [brand] product is best for…”
  • “what should I know before choosing [brand]?”

These show how ChatGPT represents an entity the user already knows.

10 category and comparison prompts

Examples:

  • “best tools for…”
  • “compare options for…”
  • “which service should I use for…”
  • “alternatives to [category leader]”

These are more useful for measuring discovery.

10 task prompts

Ask ChatGPT to solve something that could naturally produce an interactive experience:

  • calculate;
  • compare;
  • plan;
  • configure;
  • select;
  • estimate;
  • build a shortlist.

Run the same prompt set on the same dates.

Where possible, capture both Free or Go and a paid Chat tier.

But treat the comparison carefully: Free/Go and paid ChatGPT use different GPT-6 variants, so this is not a controlled experiment isolating only the interface.

Repeat the capture seven days later.

That gives a minimum of 60 observations per tier and market across two capture dates.

Track five metrics instead of inventing an “AI ranking”

A spreadsheet is enough.

Record:

1. Intelligent UI Rate

Responses containing a meaningful interactive component divided by total captured responses.

2. Brand Inclusion Rate

Responses naming the tracked brand divided by relevant prompts.

3. Interactive Brand Inclusion Rate

Interactive responses where the tracked brand appears inside the module rather than only surrounding text.

4. Link-Out Rate

Responses providing a usable external destination for the tracked brand.

5. Competitor Share

For commercial prompts, record every competing brand presented and how prominently it is framed.

Also log the module type:

  • text only;
  • comparison;
  • chart;
  • form;
  • calculator;
  • map;
  • selector;
  • another interactive tool.

That produces something more useful than a single visibility percentage.

It tells you how the brand is being represented.

Add geography and language before drawing conclusions

European AI measurement becomes unreliable when observations from different countries are mixed together.

A useful capture log should therefore include:

Field Example
Country France
Language French
ChatGPT tier Free
Prompt class Category
Prompt Original text
Capture date 9 October
Interface type Comparison
Brand mentioned Yes / No
Brand linked Yes / No
Competitors Names
Sources shown Domains
Screenshot / archive Reference

Run French prompts in France, German prompts in Germany and Polish prompts in Poland where your own team or research partners can produce legitimate local observations.

Do not treat a capture made from another country’s network as proof of what European users are seeing locally.

Free and Go deserve separate attention because ads are already there

There is another reason to monitor the Free and Go experience.

OpenAI already operates ChatGPT Ads across 31 European markets, and ads are shown on Free and Go rather than Plus, Pro or Enterprise.

That means European Free/Go users can now encounter two distinct surfaces during the same decision journey:

  1. the model-generated answer, potentially using Intelligent UI;
  2. a separately labelled advertising surface.

Those should remain separate in reporting.

An advertiser should not count an organic brand appearance inside an Intelligent UI module as an ad impression.

Likewise, an ad appearing near an answer does not demonstrate that the advertiser gained greater visibility inside the answer itself.

This distinction will become more important as marketers try to compare paid and unpaid ChatGPT exposure.

What not to claim yet

The launch does not establish that:

  • brands have an Intelligent UI ranking;
  • interactive modules increase referral traffic;
  • Free users see exactly the same modules as paid users;
  • every European country or language has completed rollout;
  • ChatGPT Ads influence which brands appear in the answer;
  • OpenAI’s new visual ad format is live in Europe;
  • conventional Google AI Overview measurement can be reused unchanged for ChatGPT.

Those require evidence.

The immediate opportunity is simpler.

Build the baseline before interface behaviour changes again.

The next AI-visibility dataset needs an interface column

AI visibility used to be reduced to mentions and citations.

That is already becoming incomplete.

If an answer can turn into a comparison tool, calculator, selector or form, the interface becomes part of the recommendation layer.

NEMO will therefore treat interface type as a first-class field in future ChatGPT visibility testing.

For brands, the immediate action is not to redesign content around an assumed GPT-6 ranking system.

It is to run repeatable prompts, archive what users actually see and distinguish four things that are currently being blurred together:

answer visibility, interactive visibility, citations and advertising.

Only then can we tell whether Intelligent UI is changing brand discovery or simply changing how the same answers are displayed.
